What Should I Bring on the Tour?
As the land tours are generally in the country we would advise you wear comfortable walking shoes or trainers as you may want to get out and experience some features of the highlands on foot. Even in summer the weather in Scotland is unpredictable and rain is never far away, so it’s best to bring some thin layers and a waterproof jacket.
On the water it can be very chilly even on a sunny day so please bring several thin warm layers, waterproof jacket and hat, scarf, gloves etc. Sunscreen and lip balm are advisable too.
Cameras and binoculars can be useful. We have some binoculars for you to borrow if you need them.
Do you have facilities for children?
For land tour in the Discovery 5 we have variety of children’s seats and boosters for older children. On the yacht we have life vests for toddlers and young adults. We send out a booking form asking for the relevant information for your group before the booking is final to ensure we have the correct safety equipment for your whole group.
How long is the tour?
Generally we will plan to pick you up after breakfast and have you home in time for dinner. This is usually 9.00 – 6.00 but we are always flexible and your guide will be in close contact with you throughout.
If sailing on the yacht we aim to meet you at 9.45, leave the marina by 10.00 and arrive back to Oban Marina by about 4.00.
Our guides aren’t normally available in the evenings.
What are the arrangements for meals?
Lunch and dinner reservations can be made in advance or casually discussed on the day – what ever you would prefer. It is worth saying, however, that in high season popular restaurants and pubs can be very busy and we would advise booking ahead to avoid disappointment. You are free to invite your guide for lunch but please don’t feel obliged to.
We offer local produce picnics in rural areas with either a rug or table and chairs/ rugs.
On the yacht we offer a selection of lunch options which you can order in advance. Your meal will be served in a relaxed atmosphere at one of the delightful anchorages arond the Firth of Lorne. You will enjoy your meal on deck but this can be taken in the saloon if the weather is inclement. You may want to book a table at one of the local restaurnats that we can sail to and moor beside. Please discuss your preferred lunch option with us when booking. Again you are free to invite your skipper and crew to join you for lunch but don’t feel obliged to.
On both and and sea tours there are lots of opportunities for tea, coffee and water throughout the day.
If you are on multi day tour we will work with you in advance to recommend and book evening meals for you in your location.
What are the arrangement for guides on multi day tours?
On multi day tours your guide we will stay in a nearby location to your accommodation. It is important for your guides to be rested and we ask that you do not ask for them to drive after they have settled you into your accommodation. They are of course available on phone/text if you need them.
An addition charge for £200 per night, per guide, is applicable to cover their accommodation.
What vehicles are available?
On land we use LandRover Discovery 5’s which are perfect for accessing the more remote areas of the country but still affording a luxurious and spacious feel for up to 6 passengers. We have a trailer which can be used for luggage and picnics.
On sea we use our 13m Jeanneau Sun Odessey 409 which has 3 cabins, one with ensuite facilities and two with shared shower. The saloon is very comfortable with a galley and seating for up to 6 comfortably.
